Its branches make a hanging crown whose height depends strongly on graft height, an attractive outline even when the deciduous leaves have fallen.

Expect around 20–40 cm of new growth per year after establishment in good conditions. For grafted standards, the stem height is already set at grafting; the crown develops above it. At maturity it typically reaches 2–4 m in height and 3–5 m in width. Allow room for a hanging crown whose height depends strongly on graft height; soil, water, exposure and pruning all influence its final outline.

How to care

Plant in fertile, well-drained soil. Water deeply through the first growing seasons and during prolonged dry spells later on. Top-dress with mature compost once a year in spring, keeping it clear of the stems. Keep shoots emerging below the graft removed and lightly thin or shape the crown only when needed.
