Allow room for a tall conical framework that can be kept narrower by clipping; soil, water, exposure and pruning all influence its final outline.

How to care

Plant in well-drained soil and avoid waterlogged ground. Keep the soil evenly moist during establishment and water again whenever the upper soil dries. Apply mature compost or a slow-release evergreen fertiliser once in spring if soil is poor. Clip once or twice during the growing season to maintain size; do not cut back into old brown wood.
